Easily fill the best dog training classes in town—yours

Make teaching dog training classes easy, fun, and effective with Open Enrollment R+ Basic Manners curriculum

Why dogbiz Basic Manners

Fill your classes, and keep them that way

Stop running classes half full or losing students to cancellations or postponements due to low enrollment.

Open enrollment

If there’s room, students can start anytime. That means no more waiting for them, and no more lost opportunities for you. And that means you make more money.

Teach all levels of dogs and students together

Skilled, experienced students with green dog guardians? No problem. Focused Lassies with distracted Scoobie Doos? Easy.

Self-contained lesson plans

Put an end to mini lessons for each student. dogbiz’ innovative curriculum lets all students and dogs participate in the same exercises together.

Keep students coming back for more

Finish class with the same number of students you started with, and get more of those students to take your next class, too—and the one after that.

Real-life themes

Building each week’s activities around problem solving a real-life situation—like polite behavior around guests or a successful neighborhood walk or part outing—keeps students engaged and makes teaching basic manners a blast.

Save your time and end your stress

No more need to reinvent the wheel, piece together your classes from other trainers’ plans, rush to prep tonight’s lessons, or stress as you “wing it.

A fully planned, scripted curriculum allows you to teach easily and with confidence, and promotes professional consistency among all trainers on your staff.

Build R+ compliance in your community

Written by experienced R+ trainers and professional curriculum developers, dogbiz Basic Manners class creates enthusiastic student buy-in for positive reinforcement training.

Your students learn the skills they need with exercises designed to gently, effectively break down old training habits and commonly held myths.

Give your students better training results

Tired of hearing students complain, “He only behaves in class!”? Our real-life based curriculum teaches students how to get training success outside your classroom—where it counts most.

Goal-based curriculum

A focus on teaching people instead of dogs means your students learn the skills they need to handle new situations—like situational awareness, working at their dog’s level (criteria setting), and problem solving.

Basic Manners System Requirements & FAQ

Can I access your curriculum from my Mac and PC?

Yes. If you’re on a PC you’ll need Microsoft Word. If you’re a Mac user, you can use Word or Pages.

I have a class starting this weekend. How fast can I get my new curriculum?

No worries! You’ll receive an immediate order confirmation email with a download link as soon as you complete your purchase.

Who writes the dogbiz curriculum?

Co-founders Veronica Boutelle and Gina Phairas develop and write all dogbiz curriculum. Veronica has a master’s degree in Education and previously taught graduate courses in curriculum development, and also trained teachers. Gina developed and taught curriculum for Jean Donaldson’s original SF/SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers. Both Veronica and Gina also have extensive experience teaching dog training classes.

Do I have to offer open enrollment to use dogbiz curriculum?

Not at all. The dogbiz Basic Manners curriculum works just as well as a traditional sequential format with all students starting and ending class on the same dates together.

Does your curriculum include an orientation session without dogs?

Yes. We include curriculum for an orientation session and strongly recommend including one. How you do so is up to you—we include notes about group orientation or providing private one-on-one orientations. Some trainers are offering theirs by video, too.

What age group is your curriculum designed for?

Our Basic Manners curriculum can be used for any age from adolescence through senior dogs.

What training methodologies are used?

All of our curriculum is based solidly in positive reinforcement. It can be taught with or without the aide of clickers.
