Stephanie was inspired to start Hand in Paw after volunteering at her local animal shelter. After meeting hundreds of dogs there and experiencing first-hand the physical and mental benefits of field trips to natural areas, she decided to bring that to the public. She volunteered as training assistant at shelter classes and continues to educate herself through self-study and consultations with behaviorists. Her background as a landscape designer and avid native plant enthusiast ensures her packs respect the trails and other users through positive enforcement of basic manners. As a one-woman business, HIP offers assurance that clients will always know who is walking their dog and has access to their homes.

Cincinnati Magazine’s Best of the City 2009 – Best Dog Trainer
I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and at the age of 22, married, and moved out of the state, eventually I landed in Dallas, Texas. My career has been in accounting and, I have always had a passion for dogs. In 1999 I had an opportunity to volunteer with a local rescue organization that needed help with their accounting. This led to becoming a foster home for the organization which expanded into management. In 2002 I co-founded a non-profit animal rescue organization and served as its president. During the years that this organization was operating we rehabilitated and rehomed hundreds of dogs and puppies and worked with the community to increase awareness of the importance of spay/neuter and the terrible consequences of animal overpopulation.
In early 2020 I moved back to Wichita to be near my family. Drawing from my experience in animal rescue I made the decision to start a Professional Dog Walking company in Wichita and graduated from the dogbiz Dog Walking Academy in 2021. I live in West Wichita with my husband. We have two dogs, Ladybird our senior lab-mix girl and Buddy, a young and energetic German shepherd mix. We also have a cockatiel named Skye.

I’ve been happy to call Santa Cruz home since I moved here from the East Coast in 1991. In 2001 I graduated from Hartnell College with an AS degree in Animal Health Technology, and in 2002 I passed the California State Board Exam becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. I have specialized in caring for small animals and exotic pets in a hospital setting since 1999, and continue to work part time at Felton Veterinary Hospital. I’m pleased to bring my medical training and compassion to you and your pets where everyone is most comfortable — at home! If your pet needs medical care post-surgery or trauma, treatment for an illness or hospice care, I can help. I also enjoy providing non-medical caregiving including feeding, cleanup of waste and daily attention and exercise through play and walking. I can help enrich your pet’s day at any stage of his or her life giving the extra care needed to a puppy or elderly pet while you are at work or out of town. I use only careful and kind handling techniques and only positive training reinforcement.
